Fat Bicth take your expectations of what can be built with a couple of guitars and a drum kit and smash them to pieces. The opening bends of ‘Ride the Vibe swagger across tom hits with a defiant nonchalance, perfectly introducing the off kilter music on ‘Waterworld 2’. In the combination of notes and beats there is a complexity and panache underpinned by an attitude of caring more about riffs than any other bullshit that could go along with being in a band, with the drummer’s vibe-y grooves accompanying the sludgy, discordant-yet-satisfying guitars in a way that is both playful and assertive. The resulting balance of dissonance and harmony is one completely of their own, but totally infectious.
